West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers have issued a joint statement ahead of Sunday's Black Country derby, urging fans to behave responsibly after 43 arrests followed the last meeting in 2024.

West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers have made a joint call for supporter responsibility ahead of this weekend's Black Country derby. The clubs have reinforced safety measures for the fixture at Molineux on Sunday, where more than 30,000 fans are expected, following significant disorder at the last meeting two years ago.

Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers said: "Both clubs are committed to ensuring the focus remains where it belongs - on the football and the atmosphere created by our supporters." The statement comes after the 2024 derby saw 43 people arrested, with 12 charged and sentenced, one Football Banning Order issued, and five supporters receiving permanent club bans.

Enhanced security measures

In collaboration with the Safety Advisory Group, local authorities, and West Midlands Police, enhanced stewarding, policing, and robust ticketing controls will be in place. Supporters are warned that violence, discriminatory behaviour, pitch intrusion, throwing missiles, or using pyrotechnics risks arrest, prosecution, and long-term bans. Tickets must be purchased through official channels, and fans must sit in their designated home or away areas, with incorrect access leading to ejection.

Fans are advised to arrive early for security searches and to report any unsafe or anti-social behaviour to stewards. After the final whistle, Albion supporters must leave via Camp Street, while home fans will not be able to access the area behind the Steve Bull Stand. The clubs acknowledged that the overwhelming majority attend to support their team passionately and responsibly.

Derby context for Albion

The derby arrives with West Bromwich Albion sitting 4th in the Championship on 14 points from seven games, their recent form reading two wins, two draws, and one defeat. Their next fixture, against Wolves, is a key test in their promotion push.

In their statement, the clubs added: "Let's ensure this Black Country derby is remembered for the football, the atmosphere and the passion in the stands." The match kicks off on Sunday at Molineux.
