West Bromwich Albion fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat in the Black Country derby against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. A second-half strike from Fer López proved decisive, extending Albion's winless start to the Championship season to eight matches.
The result leaves Jimmy Morrison's side fifth in the table on 14 points, a position they will be keen to consolidate when they return to action. That return will be at home against Birmingham City on Saturday, October 19th.
In a tight contest at Molineux, Albion edged possession with 55% but struggled to create clear chances, managing only two shots on target from seven attempts. Wolves were more clinical, with López finding the net five minutes after the restart. The visitors made a double substitution just past the hour mark, introducing Barney Stewart and Rabby Nzingoula, but could not find an equaliser.
Jayson Molumby and Nathaniel Phillips were both shown yellow cards in the first half as Albion sought to disrupt Wolves' rhythm. Goalkeeper Max O'Leary made five saves to keep the scoreline respectable. Top scorer Jimmy-Jay Morgan, who has three goals this season, started up front but was unable to add to his tally.
