West Bromwich Albion are still pushing hard to sign Danny Imray but face growing competition from Championship rivals and ambitious Wrexham. The 22-year-old impressed during his loan spell at The Hawthorns last season, making 16 Championship appearances under James Morrison.
Why is Danny Imray a priority for West Brom?
Imray particularly impressed when Morrison took over as manager, and with the modern-day legend now in charge full-time, West Brom are keen to bring him back permanently. However, the right-back position remains a concern with youngster Alex Williams and Alfie Gilchrist not yet established in the role. Imray's experience would provide much-needed stability.
Who are West Brom's rivals for Imray's signature?
The Daily Mail reports that Wrexham, owned by Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, are pushing the bar on their transfer targets as they aim for the Premier League. Stoke City have also registered their interest, making it a three-way battle for the Crystal Palace man. West Brom still want him back, but the competition is heating up.
What other areas need strengthening?
While right-back is a priority, West Brom also need more attacking options. Mikey Johnston could benefit from additional support out wide, and another striker would be welcome. Jimmy-Jay Morgan has done well in pre-season, but Morrison will want more depth before the Championship opener against Norwich City on 15 August.
